Munchkins BJJ for Kids Ages 4–6
Munchkins teammates build balance, movement, and confidence through play.
What happens in class
Jiu jitsu taught through age-appropriate movement and play, building coordination, confidence, and strong foundations.
Designed for preschool and early elementary-aged children, Munchkins teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a way that makes sense for their age. Children practise posture, balance, basic positions, safe falling, partner movement, and the beginnings of control through short activities they can understand and use.
Children begin developing athleticism, coordination, body awareness, movement intuition, and confidence while learning age-appropriate jiu jitsu. These qualities take years to build, while the ability to absorb longer technique sequences grows as children mature.
A child who can move well, adapt, and stay composed can often use a few well-understood techniques more effectively than a child who has simply memorized many.
We believe developing these foundations is the highest-value use of training time at this age.
Learning through play
Games are not filler. They are the lesson. Movement games build agility, reaction, taking turns, following rules, and staying engaged while real skills grow underneath.
Games aren’t filler. They’re the lesson.
A healthy challenge
Children learn to respect partners, handle small setbacks, and keep trying when something feels hard, without pressure to win every game.
Moving to Kinjas
There is no hard cutoff. A child moves when more structured training will serve them better; extra time building comfort and confidence is often valuable.
Our goal
Our goal is a positive relationship with movement, coaches, teammates, and healthy challenge.
